“Yangi Hayot” mahalla will become an example for the country
On February 16, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev arrived in the city of Khanabad, Andijan region, to get acquainted with the population’s life.
Khanabad is the easternmost city of Uzbekistan. Due to its location on the border, it had a special access regime. As a result of changes in recent years and the Good Neighborhood Policy, Khanabad has opened up, its economy has improved significantly, and the population’s standard of living has begun to rise. Today, tourism, industry, vegetable growing, and the service sector are developed here.
Representatives of the “Yangi Hayot” mahalla told the Head of state about the living conditions of the people.
More than 3.5 thousand people live here. There are preschool institutions, schools, and colleges with conditions for quality education. Residents are employed in mountain recreation areas, manufacturing enterprises, and private farms.
In addition, there are more than ten guest houses, about twenty shops, hairdressers, and service centers. Last year, over a hundred unemployed residents of the mahalla were employed in permanent and seasonal jobs. Another 181 citizens became self-employed.
According to the decree of the President of Uzbekistan of December 21, 2023, the role of the mahalla institution in society and in solving problems of the population as a primary link was strengthened. A “mahalla of seven” was formed, including the chairman of the mahalla, an assistant to the hokim, an activist for women’s affairs, a youth leader, a prevention inspector, a tax officer, and a social service worker.
The Head of state spoke with representatives of this system.
“From the first day, we began a dialogue with people, we strive to make the people happy. Therefore, we are developing the mahalla system as a primary link. Mahalla is the basis of civil society. This is the voice of the people. Using the powers and means provided, state representatives in the mahalla must change their worldview and respond to people’s requests. I believe that “Yangi Hayot” will become an example for Uzbekistan”, Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.
The President also inspected the mahalla, trade, and service points.
