Political Relations
Political Relations between Uzbekistan and Kuwait
The State of Kuwait recognized the Independence of the Republic of Uzbekistan on December 30, 1991. In July 1994, diplomatic relations were established between the two countries.
In 2001, the State of Kuwait opened its embassy in Tashkent. The Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the State of Kuwait has been operating since November 2004.
The reciprocal official visits of the two leaders in 2004 and 2008 were an important impetus for the development of relations between two countries and created a legal basis for further strengthening bilateral ties.
In May 2006, the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kuwait Sheikh Muhammad Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah visited Uzbekistan. During the visit, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Foreign Ministries of the two countries on holding political consultations.
In May 2015, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov visited the State of Kuwait to participate in the 42nd Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
The delegation led by the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid Al-Hamad Al Sabah took part in the 43rd Session of The Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Tashkent on 18-19 October 2016. The head of the Kuwaiti delegation was received by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan
H.E. Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
On February 7-10, 2017, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov paid an official visit to Kuwait.
The first round of political consultations was held from April 27 to May 1, 2017 as part of the visit of a delegation led by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kuwait for Asian Affairs Ali Suleiman Al-Sayed to our country.
On May 9-11, 2018, the Special Representative of the President of Uzbekistan for Afghanistan Ismatulla Irgashev visited the State of Kuwait.
On December 3-5, 2018, a delegation led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Dilshod Akhatov visited Al-Kuwait, during the visit the second round of political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan and Kuwait was held.
On March 29, 2019, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov met in Tashkent with the Deputy Prime Minister of the State of Kuwait, Minister of Defense Sheikh Nasser Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah.
A delegation led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kuwait, Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Sheikh Ahmed Nasser Al-Mohammed Al-Sabah took part in the international conference “Central and South Asia: regional interdependence Threats and Opportunities” held in Tashkent on July 15-16, 2021. Sheikh Ahmed Nasser Al-Mohammed Al-Sabah was received by the President of Uzbekistan H.E. Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
Head of the Constitutional Court of Kuwait Mohammad bin Naji, Chairman of the Kuwaiti Transparency Society Majid Al-Mutairi and Professor of the University of Kuwait Muhammad al-Feeli participated as international observers in the Presidential elections on October 24, 2021.
Delegations of the National Assembly of Kuwait visited Uzbekistan five times (October 2002, September 2005, April 2010, April 2015 and March 2019).
The Uzbek-Kuwait Inter-Parliamentary Group for Cooperation was established in the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and the Kuwait-Uzbekistan Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group was established in the Kuwait National Assembly.
