A Calligraphy School was established at the Center of Islamic Civilization in Uzbekistan

This important scientific and educational project was announced at a seminar on the topic “The Heritage of Calligraphy of the Timurid Era - Continuity of Traditions”, dedicated to the 690th anniversary of the birth of the great commander Amir Temur.
The seminar brought together leading specialists in the fields of Islamic art, history and philology and became an important platform for a broad discussion of the spiritual and cultural significance of the art of calligraphy.
– The initiative to open a Calligraphy School at the Center of Islamic Civilization was proposed by our esteemed President on January 29, 2025. A year later, this initiative was supported by all international organizations, and this project was launched within the framework of a conference dedicated to the Timurid civilization. The establishment of a calligraphy school is a logical continuation of large-scale reforms aimed at preserving and promoting cultural heritage in our country, - said Firdavs Abdukhalikov, Director of the Center for Islamic Civilization, in his speech to the participants of the event.
As noted, during the Timurid period, the art of calligraphy reached its peak of development and became a symbol of cultural uplift. According to the information provided by scientists, after Amir Timur established a centralized state, he gathered the most skilled calligraphers from different countries in the capital. The types of Suls, Nasta'liq and Kufic calligraphy reached their peak. Manuscript copies known as the "Boysungur Quran" were completed.
International experts highly appreciated this initiative. In particular, Mahmud Erol Kilic, Director General of IRCICA, expressed his opinion on the place of Islamic calligraphy in world culture, its high aesthetic and spiritual value. The Chairman of the Turkish Manuscripts Directorate, Coşkin Yılmaz, gave information about the unique manuscripts stored in the Suleymaniye Library, noting that most of them are related to the history of Central Asia. Sali Shahsuvari, Director of the Al-Furqan Islamic Heritage Foundation in Great Britain, assessed the Timurid era as a period of true enlightenment and cultural awakening.
It was emphasized that the School of Calligraphy operates not only as an educational institution, but also as a scientific research and cultural center. It is planned to train specialists, preserve and restore manuscripts, as well as develop international cooperation.
